Rihanna. Jordin. Cassie. Keri.
These first names in fashion are so famous that they don’t need a last name to inspire and enthrall. Every month, we flip the pages of magazines to see what these ladies will dare to wear next, only to have our hopes of copying their stylish curves dashed when we read the pricetag on their pretty looks.
If you’ve ever wished you could recreate your fashion she-roe’s look at a fraction of the cost, you’re not alone. And that’s why we created this guide to getting the style of the stars on a real-world budget. So let’s dig right in!
Cassie: The centerpiece of her structured menswear look is its bustier-typer base. Re-create Cassie’s look with a bold blazer, slacks and the Satin and Lace Overbust Corset and Thong Set by Hourglass Angel.
Jordin: Maximize your curves like Jordin by pairing a similar on-trend maxi skirt and the Satin and Sparkle Overbust Corset and Panty Set by Hourglass Angel 5206-2.
Keri: Create Keri’s corset-inspired look with the Longline Smooth Strapless Bra by Dominique and a satiny capri and cardigan.
Rihanna: Redo Rihanna’s red-hot look with the Nightflower Overbust Corset and Thong Set by Hourglass Angel, a pencil skirt and nude pump.
A couple of posts on our Facebook page from this week sparked an interesting discussion. A study recently made the rounds in the press showing that there were far more shapes of women than often thought. Notably (and hysterically), broccoli and butternut squash were added to the list. It’s worth mentioning that we have always known that women come in sizes and shapes a lot more complicated than apple and pear. It’s also worth noting that no matter what shape of woman you are now, you contain within you the potential for an hourglass… your own special hourglass.
We wanted to share an example of this idea of the unique hourglass. Check out this image of Nicki Minaj. Nicki is a natural pear shape. Her bust and waist are proportionally small compared to her hips and bottom: the classic beautiful pear. However, her shapewear inspired bodysuit (and, we suspect, cincher) enhance her figure, while following the lead of her natural body type. And this brings home a point that is crucial when talking about shapewear. Nicki isn’t changing who she is in this image. She is amplifying it. You needn’t completely erase your natural shape (whatever that is) to highlight your hourglass curves. Whatever your shape is, there is a body shaper that is perfect to find your beautiful curves and show them off.
And that’s just what we’re here to do!
Adele shows that her curves are as powerful as her voice in this stunning Vogue pictorial. The cinched waist look is a winner for women of all shapes and sizes, highlighting the hourglass shape in dramatic fashion. If you’d like to try Adele’s look, consider investing in a genuine heirloom quality corset such as the Black Cashmere Underbust Corset. You can layer it with a dress or fitted shirt and showcase your stunning silhouette!
Optical illusion dresses are a huge trend in spring fashion collections everywhere. These garments utilize a darker contrasting color at the sides of the dress to create a slimming look rather than slimming by compression or some other means. The dress Ms. Keys is wearing in the picture is a great example of this style, with its black border coming in at the waistline and creating an hourglass shape for the eye. We think she looks chic and slim.
What do you think about this trend?
Michelle Obama is an amazing woman. We love her strength, her leadership, and the active role she is taking in making America healthier and saving our children from obesity. We think she’s a wonderful mother who obviously cares a lot about her daughters. No doubt, she’s a supportive wife!
Not Afraid To Wear An Off The Rack Dress
We also love Mrs. Obama’s personal style. Remember the $148, off-the-rack, black and white dress she wore for her appearance on The View back in June 2008? That was probably our first clue that Mrs. Obama has her own sense of style, and that she’s not afraid to show it. That dress looked so pretty and fresh, we can’t imagine a designer outfit costing ten times as much would have looked better.
Celebrating Her Curves
Michelle Obama is a tall, pretty woman. We love that she’s not skinny and is not trying to be – she obviously takes care of herself and works out (look at those amazing arms!) but she goes with her natural body shape and doesn’t try to fight it, or to hide it. Mrs. Obama has narrow waist and wider hips, and she makes no attempt at concealing her hourglass figure or making herself appear thinner. Which we absolutely love!
Mrs. Obama loves to dress in clothes that show off her beautiful arms and shoulders. She wears body-conscious clothes that acknowledge – one might say celebrate – her curves, but are never too clingy. Instead of trying to camouflage her bottom part, she celebrates it. Her choices are markedly different from former First Ladies in that they are much more casual and much less formal and restrictive.
A Style Icon, And So Much More
While Michelle Obama has certainly become a style icon, she is so much more than that. Mrs. Obama is an incredibly smart, talented woman. She obviously wants to leave a legacy that goes beyond “she had a great sense of style,” and this reflects in her campaign against obesity as in other initiatives.
Michelle Obama is a beautiful woman, inside and out.
